With average life spans on the increase and people remaining dynamic and involved well into their 80’s... Preventive care is more important then ever before. By investing in your self care today and continuing to take adequate care of your teeth and gums each year, you can help to ensure long-term dental health.
The Diagnodent uses a small laser to help Dr's. Hamilton and Prochaska diagnose decay sooner than ever before! Traditional diagnosis required the dentist apply pressure and to probe the tooth surface to determine if decay existed. This could cause discomfort and uneasiness during the examination. The completely non-invasive laser tip allows us to read a digital readout that provides us with the amount of decay present. Early detection means that in many cases we can resolve the decay without the use of anesthesia or conventional drilling.
Sealants are easy to apply and simple to care for. People of every age can benefit from the protective shields of plastic sealants. They are more advantageous and cost-effective alternatives for preventative measures when compared to the price of fillings and root canals. These simple procedures can spare you hundreds of dollars while protecting your smile for years to come.
Fluoride Treatments make teeth inherently stronger. Even small amounts of fluoride have been found to increase the relative strength of teeth in clinical tests. Tooth enamel does not regenerate weakened areas of the tooth. The use of fluoride is beneficial because it actually repairs and re-mineralizes damage to the surface of teeth caused by acids and bacteria. Fluoride is nature's cavity fighter!
Periodontal Treatment also known Gum disease, is an infection in your gums that can affect your overall health. Did you know that there is a connection between heart disease and gum disease? Studies at the University of Minnesota have shown that having a chronic infection in your mouth can make you 4 times more susceptible to heart disease. Periodontics is a dental specialty involving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the surrounding tissues of the teeth and the maintenance of the health, function and aesthetics of these structures. At Uptown Smile we examine periodontal pocketing around each tooth and use modern technology to help in the diagnosis of periodontal disease.
Restorative dentistry uses leading-edge materials and technology to address the health of the entire mouth so it will function properly for years to come without frequent visits to the dentist. This style of dentistry repairs cracked or missing teeth and replaces old mercury fillings, ugly crowns and old composites that have become discolored or dysfunctional.
A bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic tooth in place.
Natural looking porcelain crowns, onlays and inlays restore decayed, weak, worn or broken teeth to their natural function, strength and shine!
Years ago, a badly infected tooth, or one that had significant decay, was doomed to be extracted. Today extraction is our last resort! The majority of these teeth can be effectively saved through a procedure referred to as Endodontic Therapy (also known Root Canal). Endodontic therapy usually involves little or no discomfort. In fact, the pain that causes you to need therapy is relieved by this treatment.
